Narcissistic abuse recovery is a journey of self-discovery, strength, and empowerment. It can be done. You can put the pain and sadness behind you and start anew.
- Do you ever feel that your spouse is an amazing person when you are both out in public together, but that your spouse can be indifferent or downright mean to you behind closed doors?
- Do you feel like you do all of the work in your relationship and your spouse/partner reaps the rewards of your efforts?
- Does your inner voice scream at you to walk away, yet you feel you can’t get away?
- Do you ever feel that you are last on your spouse/partner’s priority list and you feel like they put other people’s needs before yours?
- Do you feel that your spouse might be cheating on you? Even if you don’t have definitive proof, you just feel it.
If any of these questions resonate with you, it is possible that you are in an abusive relationship – and possibly in a relationship with a narcissist.
Recovering from abuse is a process. I have worked with numerous victims of narcissistic abuse, and I really want to help you too.
Step 1: Understanding
- Identifying the abuse: I help you recognize the manipulative and harmful patterns in the narcissistic relationship. You may be suffering from self-doubt and confusion, so it’s important to gain clarity about what is happening to you.
- Normalizing the trauma: I’ll help you see the pain you feel is an entirely normal response to narcissistic abuse.
- Psychoeducation: I will help you understand your reactions to the abuse and will help you understand what the narcissist might be thinking.
Step 2: Reconnecting
- Challenging distorted beliefs: Narcissists often erode their victims’ sense of self. I’ll help you rebuild a healthy self-image.
- Rediscover your strengths & passions: I’ll help you see where you shine, and why you have value. I’ll help you reconnect with hobbies and goals you’ve had suppressed. You’ll learn to enjoy life again.
Step 3: Healing
- Abuse leaves emotional scars. I use techniques to help you heal, including but not limited to the following:
- EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing): This technique help you process traumatic memories and reduce their emotional charge.
- CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy): CBT helps you reframe negative thought patterns and beliefs stemming from the abuse.
Step 4: Coping
- Set boundaries: I’ll help you establish healthy boundaries, vital for self-protection. This includes learning to say “no” and enforcing limits. This also includes being able to communicate and enforce your boundaries.
- Coping skills: Learn effective coping skills to manage anxiety, flashbacks, or emotional overwhelm caused by the abuse. This includes learning mindfulness, relaxation techniques, and self-compassion strategies.
Step 5: Rebuilding
- Rebuild trust and relationships: Narcissistic abuse shatters trust that you have regarding yourself and the world around you.. I’ll support you in gradually rebuilding healthy, trusting relationships with others.
I’m passionate about working with people who are dealing with challenging relationships. I want to empower you to make decisions that work for you and help you to heal. Your journey starts here!
